Artist Biography:
Lady Frances Fownes Maxwell-Lyte (1853-1925).
Watercolour landscape painter, born Frances Fownes Somerville at Wells, Somerset
in 1853. In 1871 she married Henry Maxwell-Lyte who was Deputy Keeper of the
Public Records for over 40 years. They lived at Berry Head House, Brixham,
Devon
She painted many views on her frequent trips abroad in France, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey and Palestine. She donated much of her work to charity art sales and was organiser for many years of the gift section of the Royal Amateur Art Society. Lady Maxwell-Lyte died on the 25th February 1925.
