Artist Biography:
William Darton:
A landscape and seascape and genre painter. His home address is listed as Mount Batten, Plymouth, Devon, where his father was a boat builder. After leaving his home town he returned in 1880 and practised as a civil engineer, working on projects on Dartmoor and for the Water Board.
He painted mainly in South Devon, depicting many of the harbours and streets of the fishing communities many of which were of the River Yealm where he was courting a young lady, who often features in his compositions.
He exhibited from 1887 to 1889, works included one at the the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (RI) and one at The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Born 8th July 1854, died circa 1951.
